
Kelly E. Young
Kelly Young grew up in Northern California's Santa Clara Valley during its agriculture heydays when there were orchards and vineyards as far as the eye could see. Kelly's early years were spent with his family traveling up to Napa Valley where his family planted 20 acres of Chardonnay in the now famous Carneros region during the late 60's and 70's. While Kelly's family managed the vineyards Kelly was quickly getting the "wine bug". His family spent those early years managing the vineyards and selling the grapes to local wineries. "As a result" Kelly says, "I spent my childhood and early adulthood close to the vines. My love of fine wines really developed first in the vineyard."
"There were a lot of old timers in those days." Kelly recalls, "We sat around the long plank board family table with maybe 15 or 20 neighbors and friends on the weekends and ate dinner, argued about wine growing techniques, the weather, the future of wine, and enjoyed life at a much simpler pace. It wasn't the Napa Valley we know today. Everything was very rustic"
Before entering into the wine industry Kelly took a detour into the then emerging technology market we now know as Silicon Valley. Kelly was a senior executive at Bay Networks, 3 Com, U.S. Robotics, and Redback Networks. At Redback, Kelly was part of the initial start up team that took Redback to the 5th most successful IPO in NASDQ history, as the Director of Channels and Distribution. But he retained his interest and passion for the fruit of the vine. Over the years Kelly amassed an impressive cellar of predominately Napa and Sonoma wines. When the opportunity arose in 2007 to blend his affinity for fine wines and his business sense, Kelly jumped at the opportunity to work with Peter Paul and take the Peter Paul Wine Portfolio to a new level.
Having graduated from West Valley College in 1982 with a degree in Business and Economics, Kelly continued his education with courses in Corporate and International Communications from MIT, and holds various technical certifications in the networking industry.
Kelly, a California Native, spends much of his free time with his stable of Hanoverians, where he has an amateur interest in raising and training Hunter/Jumpers. Kelly's family, including his wife and 2 children are involved in Hunter/Jumper competitions and participate in the West Coast show circuit. When he's not spreading the wine gospel of Peter Paul or horsing around you can find Kelly on the steep and deep slopes of the Sierra's satisfying his lifelong passion for powder skiing.
