2008 Russian River Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Lead the Way
California vintner Peter Paul has released three new wines that mark a debut for his winery. Two years ago, in a move to focus on a uniquely boutique endeavor, Peter sold his larger Grove Street Winery in Healdsburg in order to develop a portfolio with a new winemaking team - industry veterans Daniel Moore and Jeff Morgan (M Squared Wine Consultants).
The first three wines to be released are made from grapes grown in distinctive Russian River Valley vineyards. They include a Chardonnay sourced from the renowned Bacigalupi Vineyard and two Pinot Noirs - one of which is a single vineyard designate: Mill Station Road. (An Oregon Pinot Noir will also be released in the next three to six months; a Napa Valley Cabernet will come out this fall.)
Winemakers Morgan and Moore are known for their broad-based experience in California wine. Moore was the founding winemaker at Martinelli Vineyards and Lynmar Winery (both in the Russian River Valley, where he also operates his own ZMOR winery.) With Morgan, he founded SoloRosa, a wine widely recognized as a key catalyst for the current rosé revolution. Morgan is also an established wine writer and author who also makes a Napa Valley Cabernet called Covenant.
