91 PETER PAUL Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2008
Fresh pears, green apples and subtle citrusy scents are overlain in the nose by a rich blanket of creme brulee and toast, and the deep, generously filled flavors that follow strike a fine balance between sweet apples and fine oak. Although starting out with an inviting impression of plushness, then wine firms up with just the right measure of enlivening acidity, and as altogether tasty as it might be right now, this is an ageworthy Chardonnay that cannot but get better. $32.00
91 PETER PAUL Pinot Noir Mill Station Road Russian River Valley 2008
Long on deep, well-ripened fruit and fit with a full measure of caramelly oak, this head-turning young Pinot commands attention right from the first, and it gets high marks for concentration, complexity and richness. It is both full-bodied and balanced with glimmers of velvet that point.

Who We Are
Family Winemakers of California was founded in 1991 to give voice and presence to small, family wineries in the public policy arena. In the wake of the referendum on the wine market order, which was not extended, several small wineries created another vintner association apart from Wine Institute.
Family Winemakers was originally named Premium Winemakers of America, a reflection of the organization's roots in producing quality table wine. In 1992, the organization was renamed Family Winemakers of California because it was an "organization that reflects the 'little guy's' point of view." The concept behind the association was to protect individual freedom from government over-regulation. The founders believed that an organization of this type would unite small wineries and address issues that were neglected by the California Wine Commission and Wine Institute.
The mission of the Russian River Valley Winegrowers is
- To promote the exceptional quality of wine grapes and wines from the Russian River valley of Sonoma County in order to enhance our status as a preeminent growing region.
- To attract visitors to the region so that they may enjoy our wines, food, agricultural diversity, scenic beauty and community.
- To ensure the long-term health of our industry through careful stewardship of our human and natural resources, and sustainable winegrowing practices.
- To uphold the integrity of the Russian River valley Viticultural Area boundary in order to ensure consumer confidence that the wines of the region reflect the true character of the appellation.

2008 Russian River Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Lead the Way
California vintner Peter Paul has released three new wines that mark a debut for his winery. Two years ago, in a move to focus on a uniquely boutique endeavor, Peter sold his larger Grove Street Winery in Healdsburg in order to develop a portfolio with a new winemaking team - industry veterans Daniel Moore and Jeff Morgan (M Squared Wine Consultants).
The first three wines to be released are made from grapes grown in distinctive Russian River Valley vineyards. They include a Chardonnay sourced from the renowned Bacigalupi Vineyard and two Pinot Noirs - one of which is a single vineyard designate: Mill Station Road. (An Oregon Pinot Noir will also be released in the next three to six months; a Napa Valley Cabernet will come out this fall.)
Winemakers Morgan and Moore are known for their broad-based experience in California wine. Moore was the founding winemaker at Martinelli Vineyards and Lynmar Winery (both in the Russian River Valley, where he also operates his own ZMOR winery.) With Morgan, he founded SoloRosa, a wine widely recognized as a key catalyst for the current rosé revolution. Morgan is also an established wine writer and author who also makes a Napa Valley Cabernet called Covenant.
