While we did not produce a 2020 Mille Freres Pinot Noir, it is with gratitude and relief that we report a beautiful and peaceful harvest this year!
Even ripening, low yields due to drought and blessedly free of smoke – 2021 is very promising. Extremely low yields lead to more concentrated and ripe fruit with higher skin to pulp ratio, which often deliver more complexity and magnitude.
Harvest begin August 27th at Bacigalupi in the middle of a beautiful night. The whole team in the vineyards hand-harvesting Chardonnay. It flowed nicely right through to our last incoming fruit in early October.
With everything safely in the winery, the team had a great time upping our game and teasing out the best expressions of flavors possible. Things like:
- 25% whole cluster Pinot Noir ferments
- Foot-treaded Chardonnay for more skin contact
- Open-top pump-overs
